Jonathan Turley: The “Liberated” Pelosi Should Now Step Down As Speaker
Pelosi broke with tradition on three points: changing the greeting for the President, making demonstrations of criticism from the Speaker’s chair, and ripping up the address in protest. I previously called upon Pelosi to apologize and commit to maintaining decades of tradition for the Speaker to be neutral in the State of the Union to represent the House as a whole — Republicans and Democrats. Pelosi yesterday however doubled down and declared her protests to be perfectly appropriate and liberating. Her declaration of being “liberated” is itself both confirmatory and chilling. She liberated herself from traditions of neutrality that extends back centuries to the English Parliament.
Now liberating from rules and tradition, Pelosi is free to convert the Speakership into a more partisan role at the SOTU, including the use of the position to mock, troll, or taunt a president addressing both houses. I have joined others in criticizing Trump’s failure to shake the hand of Pelosi and his highly inappropriate comments yesterday questioning Pelosi’s and Romney’s faith. However, that does not give Pelosi license to violate this important and unbroken tradition as Speaker at the State of the Union. Indeed, the silence of Democratic members in the face of Pelosi shattering decades of tradition is equally shocking. In remaining silent, Democrats of both houses have lost any moral high ground….
Read the whole thing.
Immediately after President Donald Trump gave his powerful State of the Union address on Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi infamously tore up her copy of the speech. The White House rightly denounced this petty tantrum, saying Pelosi tore up “One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen. The survival of a child born at 21 weeks. The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller. A service member’s reunion with his family. That’s her legacy.”
Yet Pelosi made a far more monumental error regarding the State of the Union, one that undercuts her very argument for impeaching and removing Trump from office as soon as possible before he could supposedly derail the 2020 election. It was wrong for her to tear up the speech, but it was far worse — strategically speaking — for her to invite him in the first place.
Pelosi led House Democrats in impeaching Trump on the charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. During the arguments for impeachment, she claimed that the process could not be delayed because Trump was a “threat” to the 2020 election. Therefore, when the White House signaled that it would use executive privilege to refuse subpoenas in the impeachment inquiry, Pelosi responded by adding a new article of impeachment for “obstruction of Congress.”
Yet she undercut the argument for haste by holding up the articles of impeachment, and she also undercut the argument by inviting Trump to deliver the State of the Union address — even before he had been acquitted.
Pelosi’s decision rises to the level of absurdity. On the one hand, she led an attempt to force the president out of office, claiming he threatened the integrity of the next election and the Consitution. On the other hand, she invited him to deliver an address full of pomp and pageantry — that he was certain to use to bolster his re-election. She naturally seemed very uncomfortable throughout the speech, but she had no one to blame for it but herself….

I’d say she’d never do ‘that’ again (inviting Pres. Trump to deliver SOTU from the House chamber), but my gut tells me she won’t be getting that chance again come next year as she will be watching from the floor.
TET: Senators Say Redacted Footnotes Contradict IG Report Statements: The chairmen of two U.S. Senate committees are disputing claims made by an FBI official to the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General (OIG), saying the claims are contradicted by four classified footnotes in a recent OIG report that delved into FBI’s surveillance of Trump 2016 presidential campaign aides… … Cherry-picking to present a false narrative, huh?
David Catron: Why Trump Keeps Winning: Prosperity and national pride will always triumph over partisanship and petulant rage. … He’s crazy like a fox. The leftist democrats are just batshit crazy.
Matthew Continetti: The Era of Limbaugh – Column: Why Rush Limbaugh matters
Limbaugh is not fringe. His views fit in the conservative mainstream. He idolizes Buckley. “He was a fundamental individual in helping me to be able to explain what I believed instinctively, helping me to explain it to others,” Limbaugh said last year. The ideas are the same but the salesman is different. Limbaugh is Buckley without the accent, without the Yale credentials, without the sailboat and harpsichord. Limbaugh is a college dropout from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, who spends Sundays watching the NFL and speaks in plain language. His background connects him to the audience—and to the increasingly working-class Republican voter.
Limbaugh entered stage right just as Ronald Reagan made his exit. He took from Reagan the sense that America’s future is bright, that America isn’t broken, just its liberal political, media, and cultural elites. “He rejected Washington elitism and connected directly with the American people who adored him,” Limbaugh said after Reagan’s death. “He didn’t need the press. He didn’t need the press to spin what he was or what he said. He had the ability to connect individually with each American who saw him.” The two men never met.
Limbaugh assumed Reagan’s position as leader of the conservative movement. In a letter sent to Limbaugh after the 1992 election, Reagan wrote, “Now that I’ve retired from active politics, I don’t mind that you have become the Number One voice for conservatism in our Country. I know the liberals call you the most dangerous man in America, but don’t worry about it, they used to say the same thing about me. Keep up the good work. America needs to hear ‘the way things ought to be.’”
Read the whole thing.
As Jim Geraghty tweeted earlier this week, Rush was the gateway drug to conservatism for millions of America. During the 1990s, prior to the arrival of the World Wide Web, Fox News, and then the Blogosphere, Rush was also essentially foreshadowing blogging; riffing seemingly effortlessly on both alternative takes on the stories of the day, and stories the DNC-MSM either got wrong or failed to cover. And doing it in a way that flattered those in what coastal elites long ago dubbed “flyover country.” And increasingly far worse — as the late Timesman David Carr said to HBO’s Bill Maher in 2011, “If it’s Kansas, Missouri, no big deal. You know, that’s the dance of the low-sloping foreheads. The middle places, right?”
Yeah, that was then. This is now. The bulk of the hard-working living and dying American people in this country are fucking sick and tired of that bullshit. It is the reason we got Donald Trump, and by God, the reason why he will lead us through the next five years. This bullshit right here…
Sorta funny how the coastal left and socialist dems are crapping all over the nation’s Midwest, huh?
I think it is a great time for Pres. Trump to start having rallies in democrat strangleholds like Chicago and Detroit.
Clinton hack-master, James Carville, is flabbergasted and really terrified about what he is seeing and hearing in his beloved democrat party and its unfailing coastal elitist MSM today, and he’s telling you he’s just too damn old for this shit…
Poor Chris Matthews. He spent his career basking in all the ethereal wonderfulness of the democrat party’s promises of utopia and woke up too late to reality, and will now pay the price for screaming, “It’s a cookbook!!!”
Via The Blaze:
“The issue of this campaign, it is that word socialism,” Matthews said.
“Some people like it. Younger people like it. Those of us like me, who grew up in the Cold War and saw some aspects of it if you’re visiting places like Vietnam like I have, and seen countries like Cuba, being there,” he added.
“I’ve seen what socialism’s like, and I don’t like it. OK? It’s not only not free, it doesn’t frickin’ work.”
Matthews distinguished between Democrats, who he said were to the left of Republicans and preferred more social programs, to socialists that he identified with the communists and other revolutionaries.
He went on to opine that had the communists taken over that he would be among those who would be lined up and executed, and implied that people like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and his supporters would be applauding his execution.
“I have my own views of the word socialist and I’ll be glad to share them with [the Democratic party] in private, and they go back to the early nineteen fifties. I have an attitude about them. I remember the Cold War,” Matthews said.
“I have an attitude towards [communist Cuban dictator Castro], I believe that if Castro and the reds had won the Cold War, there would have been executions in Central Park, and I might have been one of the ones being executed!” he continued.
“And certain other people would have been there, cheering, OK?” Matthews concluded. “So I have a problem with people taking the other side.”
Chris Matthews being honest about what socialism really looks like and how dangerous it really is … color me shocked. Sadly it's too late for Democrats, they've already let the socialists take over their party.

What people must, in this 21st century, understand is you cannot simply just stick your toe into socialism. It is a gateway drug of political ideology fed by the growing hunger and addiction to power and control that comes once the governing class realizes they can take and take more and more from the rest of us because, and this always— ALWAYS happens, the masses are expendable. It is why anti-life policies are so damned popular and important to the democrat-socialists, such as abortion at any time for any/no reason at all and end of life measures. Never forget it was Marxists who helped draft ObamaCare. People who actually read the bill, and read what the writers of ObamaCare believed and espoused, were belly-laughed at for defining what was in it (eh, Nancy?) was indeed death panel measures in order to cut back on actual health care by cutting access to procedures/treatments/medicines/testing/etc unless the government staff running ObamaCare approved it so it could run financially.
Zeke Emanuel (yeah, brother of that Chicago mayor guy who was also a Clinton hack) was a big architect of ObamaCare. He believes babies born with ailments or special needs throughout life are not worthy of being given healthcare. He also believes nobody should live older than 75 years old.
You see how socialism really does resort to death in the masses in order for the system to prevail?
The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.
Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion.
Rep. Michele Bachmann highlighted the Orwellian thinking of the president’s health care advisor, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of the White House chief of staff, in a floor speech to the House of Representatives. I commend her for being a voice for the most precious members of our society, our children and our seniors.
While Emanuel does not use the term “death panel,” Palin put that term in quotation marks to signify the concept of medical decisions based on the perceived societal worth of an individual, not literally a “death panel.” And in so doing, Palin was true to Dr. Emanuel’s concept of a system which
considers prognosis, since its aim is to achieve complete lives. A young person with a poor prognosis has had a few life-years but lacks the potential to live a complete life. Considering prognosis forestalls the concern the disproportionately large amounts of resources will be directed to young people with poor prognoses. When the worst-off can benefit only slightly while better-off people could benefit greatly, allocating to the better-off is often justifiable….
When implemented, the complete lives system produces a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated.
Put together the concepts of prognosis and age, and Dr. Emanuel’s proposal reasonably could be construed as advocating the withholding of some level of medical treatment (probably not basic care, but likely expensive advanced care) to a baby born with Down Syndrome. You may not like this implication, but it is Dr. Emanuel’s implication not Palin’s.
It is what it is. But the left who are currently jumping all over Chris Matthews for daring to harken through the last century of socialist-communist execution of any/all resistance to it is not wrong. It is just that those avowed to the ideology have spent the better part of the last century and all of this century thus far telling everyone that history is a lie … you know, how communism (even under the guise of democratic ‘socialism’) has killed over 140 million people, either by firing squads or by intentional starvation and wars. And as we have always been reminded, “If you fail to learn from history you are doomed to repeat it…”
Bernie Sanders is unapologetic about his loyalty to communist ideology. He only uses the term ‘socialism’ with the word ‘democrat’ in front of it as a bait and switch mechanism. Some of his most staunch supporters are the younger adults in this country who simply do not want any responsibility for anything in life and want everything provided and dictated by a central all encompassing government. The rest are frustrated old hippie farts that were never right in the head to begin with. If you ever watched Doctor Zhivago you would recognize them as those who adored Pasha Antipov who changed his name to Strelnikov, the ‘red train’ speeding communist leader who announced to the individualistic thinker Dr. Zhivago…
There is no democracy in socialism/communism. There is no individuality in it. There is no privacy. No personal life. You own nothing. Everything belongs to ‘the state’, i.e., the governing system. And anything it gives you will most certainly be taken from you whenever it wants to, and for no other reason than it can.
Bernie Sanders scares the Hell out of soft socialists who allow feeling and emotion to govern their politics, not reality. No matter what Chris Matthews says now, he has always supported the socialist practicing democrat party over the decades of his life. But Matthews is akin to the fears of the democrat party.
What Matthews doesn’t understand is the dem party, especially under the Barack Obama administration (and the planned continuance under a Hillary Clinton administration), has been seeping socialism into the government for those decades … the liberal-minded GOP can be blamed for this too. What scares the democrat leadership and its party is that Bernie Sanders is blatantly in-your-face honest that it is exactly what he intends to do. Oh, that gunning down people resisting would come later, as Bernie’s campaign workers have promised as much and more. A politician never openly says such things. No, there are plenty of minions to do that bidding so he /she can wash hands of them. But Bernie already has seeds of destruction inside the legislative body of our republic’s government. He has the help of the 2018 midterm ‘squad’ freshmen of the party in the House, one supporting Elizabeth Warren (Bernie with bigger boobs) who the democrat establishment doesn’t care for either. What is happening with people like Matthews and the establishment democrat party he has so adored and championed, is they have always operated stealthily with the slow boiling of the frog by raising taxes, government regulations, oppressive laws, out of control government spending, government expansion and overreach. Bernie just tells you that under his plan (Warren’s too) it will be be done basically by throwing the frog republic into the fire. Dems know that approach will never fly with American voters, and they will lose their power grip they believe has been snowing voters for generations.
There’s a reason for this: The Democratic Party has fed off the energy of Sanders’ ideology hoping that, eventually, the voters would come to their senses. Leading candidates have echoed Sanders’ talking points. Sen. Elizabeth Warren adopted and then abandoned Medicare for All, and former Vice President Joe Biden mirrored Sanders’ Howard Zinn historical perspective. Those who have attempted to siphon off Sanders’ base and approximate his authenticity have failed dramatically.
Instead, Sanders continues to resonate with the base. After all, if you’re going to go with an anti-Constitution, anti-free market, intersectionality-based perspective, why water it down with insincerity?
Sanders brags about the fact that his ideology has never changed. He’s right.
Sanders trots out campaign surrogates who openly claim that the United States is rooted in genocide and racism, and that the American system must be fundamentally remade.
This is radical stuff. But radicals have passion. And politicians of the Democratic Party are unwilling to quell that passion — not when they believe they can capture it and turn it against President Donald Trump.
This is the mirror image of the Republican problem with Trump in 2016: Trump ran on a platform of bashing the Iraq War and America’s intelligence agencies, blasting free trade, pledging to avoid entitlement program reforms and slamming the door on immigration.
Instead of fighting those elements, Republicans decided to tinge their own campaigns with those attitudes and then assume Trump would collapse under the weight of his own personality flaws. That never happened.
Democrats seem to be waiting for another collapse that simply isn’t coming. Sanders isn’t going anywhere. His floor is high, and his ceiling remains low — just like Trump. Electability problems aren’t going to dissuade his supporters, who believe — correctly — that inauthenticity provides its own electoral issues….
But no Democrat was willing to stand up to the Sanders base. They were too greedy for its energy and too optimistic that the energy was transferable.
It wasn’t. And so the Democratic Party has been captured by an ideology foreign to it — the ideology of Noam Chomsky infused directly into the bloodstream of a party that once touted former President John F. Kennedy.
Partisanship is a hell of a drug.
And you thought the Hillary bots in 2016 were crazy?
The fact is every single democrat, from Biden to Mayor Pete to Bloomberg to all the others who have stood on a debate stage this cycle intend for a Bernie goal, but just stealthily, measuredly, and quietly, not with Strelnikov’s big crushing red train barreling through.

Stephen Kruiser: It’s Starting to Feel Like AOC Is a Republican Plant
Ever since Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) burst onto the national political scene a year ago she has been a ceaselessly erupting geyser of inane soundbites. There are days when it seems as if she is performing an extemporaneous Saturday Night Live skit, soliloquizing away, always desperately attempting to project an awkward gravitas that feels like she may have learned it from a YouTube video called, “How To Seem Super Super Serious and Stuff.”
One of the more bizarre aspects of AOC’s ongoing struggle with verbal diarrhea is that the media insists on celebrating everything she says actually having intellectual heft. Sure, it’s not unusual for the mainstream media to fawn over their own creations — Beto O’Rourke comes to mind — but the treatment of AOC stands out because she is truly a remarkably stupid woman.
I mean, a real paste-eater.
O’Rourke — a monumental moron in his own right — is the second coming of Einstein compared to Ocasio-Cortez….
Read the whole— well, you know.
In order for socialism to take hold, and fully transform into communism, you must completely remove the rights of the citizens to own arms. They must be disarmed, and violators ‘dealt with’.

QUESTIONS NOBODY IS ASKING: Who Is Writing Brad Pitt’s Awards Season Speeches?
Fenway Strategies is a speechwriting and communications firm founded by former Obama administration officials Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor. Although the firm’s most obvious connection is to the political arena, helping speakers prep TED talks or United Nations addresses, Fenway has branched out into Hollywood. And over the last few years the firm has helped ghostwrite awards acceptance speeches for a number of A-list clients; you definitely know them but their identities are protected by non-disclosure agreements.
To hear it from Fenway principal Sam Koppelman, a former speechwriter for Michael Bloomberg and digital strategist for Hillary Clinton who also co-authored the New York Times best seller Impeach: The Case Against Donald Trump, the practice is so widespread among movie, music, and TV stars nowadays, he finds it more astonishing to discover a nominee has eschewed professional speechwriting help than when one seeks it out.
“Writing for actors is a speechwriter’s dream come true,” says Koppelman. “Because unlike politicians, who are not professionals at memorizing lines or delivering them in compelling and charismatic ways, actors actually know how to deliver the lines.”
Why, it’s like Hollywood is the Democrat base or something.

I am seeing democrats, MSM and the left collectively spinning fake outrage over Pres. Trump removing Col. Vindman and his brother from their positions inside the White House, and reassigning them away from the cabinet…
Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman was fired from his job at the White House on Friday. He was not expected to leave his post in July, but the Washington Post reported Friday morning Vindman and “other national security officials who testified or cooperated with House Democrats” were being considered for dismissal. According to the earlier report, Trump discussed with aides removing officials he called “disloyal.” According to that earlier report, Vindman will be assigned a different position in the Department of Defense.
Vindman’s twin brother Lt. Col. Yevgeny Vindman, a National Security Council attorney, was also fired, and both were escorted off the White House grounds.
Vindman was one of the Democrats’ key witnesses in the House impeachment inquiry, despite his admission that he had no firsthand knowledge of the held-up Ukraine aid or any potential linkage to the investigation, and admitted he was just “following news accounts.”
Vindman also admitted that President Trump was “well within his rights” to ask Ukraine for help in an investigation, undercutting the Democrats’ narrative, and that he couldn’t recall Ukrainian officials ever feeling pressured to launch any investigations.
Considering these elements of his testimony alone certainly raises doubts about his ability to do his job in the National Security Council objectively….
Col. Vindman wasn’t “fired” he’s still an Army officer. He was assigned to NSC to serve the President who has a right to have people he trusts on his staff
Sondland was a politically appointee. No point in having a political appointee who no longer has the Presidents confidence

IBD (10-29-13): Obama’s Military Coup Purges 197 Officers In Five Years
Defense: What the president calls “my military” is being cleansed of any officer suspected of disloyalty to or disagreement with the administration on matters of policy or force structure, leaving the compliant and fearful.
We recognize President Obama is the commander-in-chief and that throughout history presidents from Lincoln to Truman have seen fit to remove military commanders they view as inadequate or insubordinate. Turnover in the military ranks is normal, and in these times of sequestration and budget cuts the numbers are expected to tick up as force levels shrink and missions change.
Yet what has happened to our officer corps since President Obama took office is viewed in many quarters as unprecedented, baffling and even harmful to our national security posture. We have commented on some of the higher profile cases, such as Gen. Carter Ham. He was relieved as head of U.S. Africa Command after only a year and a half because he disagreed with orders not to mount a rescue mission in response to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi.
Rear Adm. Chuck Gaouette, commander of the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group, was relieved in October 2012 for disobeying orders when he sent his group on Sept. 11 to “assist and provide intelligence for” military forces ordered into action by Gen. Ham….
From Breitbart.com’s Facebook page comes a list of at least 197 officers that have been relieved of duty by President Obama for a laundry list of reasons and sometimes with no reason given….
Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely, an outspoken critic of the Obama administration, notes how the White House fails to take action or investigate its own officials but finds it easy to fire military commanders “who have given their lives for their country.” Vallely thinks he knows why this purge is happening.
“Obama will not purge a civilian or political appointee because they have bought into Obama’s ideology,” Vallely said. “The White House protects their own. That’s why they stalled on the investigation into Fast and Furious, Benghazi and ObamaCare. He’s intentionally weakening and gutting our military, Pentagon and reducing us as a superpower, and anyone in the ranks who disagrees or speaks out is being purged.”…
Vindman (and his twin brother) served the position in the White House at the pleasure of POTUS. End of story. As did…
