Yesterday CNN slobbered all over itself at some sort of exclusive bombshell (well, how CNN presented it) trying to nail Pres. Trump with the ‘extracted’ top CIA spy from Russia in 2017. The “exclusive” report came from CNN’s Jim Sciutto, a former Obama administration official. The buckets of frozen Arctic waters began pouring down on the fake news cable TV channel in short order…
From the office run by CIA Director Gina Haspel — a lifelong Agency officer:
“Misguided speculation that the President's handling of our nation's most sensitive intelligence…drove an alleged exfiltration operation is inaccurate."

Well remember, once these media goons have a narrative, the facts don't matter.
Even when the Mueller Special Counsel's office took the highly unusual step of releasing a statement following a Buzzfeed report about Michael Cohen handing over documents to the SC….

If the Times is correct, CNN has a great deal of explaining to do over its coverage and sources on this story. CNN has been rightfully criticized for its unrelentingly negative coverage of Trump. I have criticized the network repeatedly its erroneous legal analysis. However, this story is different with the Times standing in such direct contradiction to the reporting of CNN. The concern is that the intense and open opposition to Trump at CNN is overwhelming its journalistic standards. This is not just political or legal analysis with a bias. National security reporting has long been treated as the gold standard for networks. For that reason, the greatest challenge for CNN is not the CIA rebuke but the contradiction from a major journalistic organization like the New York Times.
The MSM was the reason for this CIA spy extraction from Russia … which began in 2016 … not Trump, and they still continue to endanger this CIA spy and his/her family by now skulking around their residence…
So bad was CNN’s mishandling and publicizing of this that even the anti-Trump NY Times has basically shouted them down…
The Central Intelligence Agency on Monday evening slammed what it called CNN’s “misguided” and “simply false” reporting, after the cable channel’s chief national security correspondent authored a hole-filled piece claiming that the CIA had pulled a high-level spy out of Russia because President Trump had “repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.”
The extraordinary CIA rebuke came as The New York Times published a bombshell piece late in the evening, which largely contradicted CNN’s reporting. According to the Times, CIA officials “made the arduous decision in late 2016 to offer to extract the source from Russia” — weeks before Trump even took office.
Concerns about media reporting on Russian election interference drove the decision, according to the Times, which described the source as “the American government’s best insight into the thinking of and orders” from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Former intelligence officials said there was no public evidence that Mr. Trump directly endangered the source, and other current American officials insisted that media scrutiny of the agency’s sources alone was the impetus for the extraction,” the Times wrote.
The purported spy refused the 2016 offer of extraction, the Times reported, citing family concerns. But the CIA “pressed again months later after more media inquiries” threatened the source, and he relented, according to the paper.
The whirlwind developments continued into the night on Monday, when NBC News exclusively reported that a possible Russia spy was now living under apparent U.S. protection, using his true identity, in Washington, D.C. — and that his life could be in danger. Sources told NBC News that the Russian living in Washington was the same individual who was referenced in the reporting by CNN and the Times, and NBC said he “fits the profile of someone who may have had access to information about Putin’s activities.”
An NBC reporter who knocked at the Russian’s door was confronted by unidentified men in an SUV, presumed to be security personnel, within minutes. Speculation about the purported spy’s identity, using publicly available records, quickly circulated on social media after NBC News’ report revealed identifiable details about his living situation.
“CNN’s narrative that the Central Intelligence Agency makes life-or-death decisions based on anything other than objective analysis and sound collection is simply false,” CIA Director for Public Affairs Brittany Bramell said in the agency’s statement.
Bramwell continued: “Misguided speculation that the President’s handling of our nation’s most sensitive intelligence — which he has access to each and every day — drove an alleged exfiltration operation is inaccurate.” …
“Again, the irony is lost that it’s the ones who are complaining who are the ones revealing this supposed source,” Mate wrote. “So there’s a pattern here of intel leaks in order to: create a false link between Trump-Russia; to reveal supposed high-level Russian sources that advance the Russiagate narrative & then falsely blame Trump for these sources’ supposed vulnerability.” …
Aaron Maté @aaronjmate @ Twitter: “There’s been a pattern of intel leaks claiming to have high-level Russian sources followed by other intel leaks voicing concern that those sources are being exposed. It’s fishy. Also fishy: this claim that Trump revealed secret intel to Russian visitors. It was already public.” … … Follow the whole thread. He ain’t wrong.
Worth mentioning AGAIN for those who might be unaware, CNN’s Jim Sciutto (responsible for this latest fake news report) is a former Obama administration official. He would be privy to the basic facts of when/why/how in this matter and went forward with this in spite of those undeniably important details. Hence, this was nothing more than another ‘hit job’ attempt on Trump in order to kick up dust as the democrats grasp at nothing in order to begin impeachment process…
DC (8/1/18): CNN Loves Hiring Former Obama Officials
CNN’s current chief national security correspondent Jim Sciutto served in the Obama administration as the senior adviser to the U.S. ambassador to China.
Despite having an obvious conflict of interest in foreign policy reporting — particularly on issues relating to China — Sciutto is often presented on the network as an objective reporter. He has reported on the Iran Deal, the United States’ deal to save China’s ZTE, and other international stories without CNN ever indicating that he served in the Obama administration.
“It is once again an incorrect story from CNN,” she said Tuesday on “Fox & Friends.” “Jim Sciutto was an Obama operative who had a lot to do with the Russian collusion stories that have since been debunked and yesterday’s was so exception.
“But what’s interesting about it is that it was part of a trio of stories based on leaks from intelligence officials that seem to be preparing to out someone,” Hemingway continued. “And so even though the story that they’re telling is not correct, there is an interesting story here. It has nothing to do with Donald Trump.”
Sciutto billed the story as an exclusive and claimed the Trump administration had to exfiltrate a high-level Kremlin spy back in 2017 because they had mishandled classified materials, and put the asset at risk. The story goes on to quote several unnamed intelligence sources who leaked information to CNN and who may have served under the Obama administration.
The irony that CNN's story yesterday tried to blame Trump for having to extract a Kremlin spy.
Instead, it was leaks like the one to CNN that spurred the extraction. https://t.co/36sBACJf1n

Gregg Re, Brooke Singman: White House blasts CNN report on spy’s extraction, warns lives could be ‘in danger’
Powerline: Extract This
Citing precisely one source, CNN inserts the key Trump-hating angle in the story’s second sentence: “A person directly involved in the discussions said that the removal of the Russian was driven, in part, by concerns that President Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.” What “discussions”? The lead sentence refers to no “discussions.”
Both CNN and the Times raise concerns about President Trump’s treatment of highly classified information. I always find this concern to be deeply touching in the case of the times, which prefers to reserve to itself the decision to blow highly classified national security information. See my “Tears of the Times” — please!
The Times story is more substantial than CNN’s and carries the usual trademark: “This article is based on interviews in recent months with current and former officials who spoke on the condition that their names not be used discussing classified information.” These “current and former officials” and their friends at the Times are beneath contempt.
The Federalist: Obama, Not Trump, Outed Russian Spy
President Trump did not cause the Central Intelligence Agency to withdraw a top-level spy from Russia. Obama did. And so did indiscreet intelligence officials. CNN’s report to the contrary is false, as usual. CNN has a track record of fake news, including false and biased reporting that elevates white supremacists.
On Monday, CNN bragged of an “exclusive” report that “the United States successfully extracted from Russia one of its highest-level covert sources inside the Russian government” partly because “President Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.”
In fact, however, officials “mishandled intelligence” and tried to extricate this source in 2016, before Trump even won the presidential election. The New York Times reports intelligence officials compromised this source by gossiping about him to news reporters.
“When intelligence officials revealed the severity of Russia’s election interference with unusual detail … the news media picked up on details about the C.I.A.’s Kremlin sources.” Then, “C.I.A. officials … made the arduous decision in late 2016 to offer to extract the source from Russia. … [T]he C.I.A. pressed again months later after more media inquiries.”
President Obama compromised this source even further, right before Trump’s inauguration. Obama authorized the public release and declassification of a report by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) alluding to this source’s placement in the Russian government. The New York Times cites the public release of the DNI report as another reason for extracting the source….
Read the whole thing.
And (of course) even caught dead-to-rights in the major “journalistic” fake news error (note how a MSM/CNN “error” never seems to be in the opposite direction of a positive for Trump) CNN has yet to do the right thing…
The story was first reported by CNN's @jimsciutto. Sciutto framed the story to suggest that the extraction was "driven by" President Trump's mishandling of classified information.
That's a serious accusation.https://t.co/OgpeEFgDie
