The Predictable Fallout from the Washington Navy Yard Mass Murder

Head over to The Blaze for a good news round-up of yesterday’s shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

Just seconds after yesterday’s mass shooting on the Washington D.C. Navy Yard the liberals at all levels in our lopsided society fell over each other to be the first to demand more gun control in the nation (there must be some secret prize or award, or something). And then there are those malignant idiots that blame the NRA, and not the guilty shooter or the legal system that did not carry out to the fullest extent the penalties/punishment for the guy’s previous offenses and/or breaking of existing gun laws. As with Bradley Manning and Ed Snowden, Aaron Alexis also points out the messes that have been made when the feds do no fully vet those they hire (remember, all those people being hired to help out with ObamaCare are not being vetted either…). The federal government has become so PC at our expense.

In the spirit of the Obama administration’s signature practice of “Never Letting A Good Crisis Go To Waste” the White House and Obama are slobbering all over themselves to jump on this latest act of evil and insanity to punish the rest of us that did absolutely nothing wrong

In the wake of the shooting at the Navy Yard, Obama spokesman Jay Carney said the president is implementing executive actions and reiterated his commitment to strengthening gun laws, including expanding background checks to sales online and at gun shows.

“The president supports, as do an overwhelming majority of Americans, common-sense measures to reduce gun violence,” Carney said.

I just am not seeing where “an overwhelming majority of Americans” are starving for the federal government, most especially under this overreaching administration and Congress, to dump the Second Amendment and disarm us. I do, however, see a hell of a lot of Americans demanding current exisiting laws be enforced, instead of new pile-on gun laws. Oh, and BTW, the mayor of Washington D.C. is blaming the “sequester” cuts for yesterday’s shooting. You know, Barack Obama’s ‘sequester’.

But here is something to jam in your liberal/leftist crack pipe and smoke. Look at what brilliant mind made our military bases “Gun Free Zones”

After Nidal Hasan killed 13 and wounded more than 30 in November 2009, John R. Lott wrote about one of the craziest policies to come out of the Clinton era: making military bases “gun free zones.”

Yes, that’s correct. In 1993, President Bill Clinton decreed that US military personnel were to surrender the Second Amendment rights that they swear an oath to support and defend. Lott, writing in 2009, called for that policy to be ended.

Shouldn’t an army base be the last place where a terrorist should be able to shoot at people uninterrupted for 10 minutes? After all, an army base is filled with soldiers who carry guns, right? Unfortunately, that is not the case. Beginning in March 1993, under the Clinton administration, the army forbids military personnel from carrying their own personal firearms and mandates that “a credible and specific threat against [Department of the Army] personnel [exist] in that region” before military personnel “may be authorized to carry firearms for personal protection.” Indeed, most military bases have relatively few military police as they are in heavy demand to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The unarmed soldiers could do little more than cower as Major Nidal Malik Hasan stood on a desk and shot down into the cubicles in which his victims were trapped. Some behaved heroically, such as private first class Marquest Smith who repeatedly risked his life removing five soldiers and a civilian from the carnage. But, being unarmed, these soldiers were unable to stop Hasan’s attack.

The wife of one of the soldiers shot at Ft. Hood understood this all too well. Mandy Foster’s husband had been shot but was fortunate enough not to be seriously injured. In an interview on CNN on Monday night, Mrs. Foster was asked by anchor John Roberts how she felt about her husband “still scheduled for deployment in January” to Afghanistan. Ms. Foster responded: “At least he’s safe there and he can fire back, right?” — It is hard to believe that we don’t trust soldiers with guns on an army base when we trust these very same men in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unfortunately, most of CNN’s listeners probably didn’t understand the rules that Ms. Foster was referring to.

That being the case, there are still those permitted to carry on our bases, and apparently the mass murderer, Aaron Alexis, in his experience of having been in the Navy reserve knew exactly where to find additional firepower once he’d gotten onto the Navy yard and taken down those carriers. There would be nobody on base to challenge or stop him from that point on

. . . When it was over, the suspected gunman lay dead amid an armload of weapons. Sources told News4 that surveillance footage showed that he began his attack with a shotgun, but was found with a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle.

NBC News correspondent Pete Williams is reporting Alexis purchased a shotgun in Lorton, Va. during the past week or so.

The suspected gunman appeared to have seized firearms from two of his victims as he moved through the building along the Anacostia River in southeast Washington, where 3,000 Navy employees go to work each day, many of them carrying authorized firearms.

So, the Navy yard killer had a Joe Biden approved shotgun, and then armed himself with the sidearms from the first of his victims. And after yesterday’s MSM orgasm (CNN with more than its fair share) on trying to report this breaking news story with the biggest and baddest murderer being the gun(s), they reported the killer used an AR-15 (the biggest target of all for the barking-frothing gun-grabbers). Guess what … FBI says there was NO AR-15 used in the mass murder yesterday. CNN hardest hit (see below the fold).

  2. So, let’s see. A shooter kills a lot of people who are told to walk around unarmed and the public demands a ban of guns, so that the next shooter will be assured that he won’t have any problem carrying on.
But let Syria have violence all over the place, and let us not be able to discern goodies from baddies, and it is imperative that we arm some of the shooters because it is a violent place and some of the shooters need our help to be able to defend themselves, and, btw, let’s send a ton of arms to Mexico and not be able to trace them because then drug dealers will be able to use them to kill Americans and Mexicans.
Folks, it is all la la land.
